Equip yourself before you startBefore tackling a crack, equip yourself. To carry out the repair you will need tools: a paint tray, a triangular scraper, an American knife, knives to be coated, a sanding block and abrasive paper. You will also need the following materials: filler, leveling compound and a roll of crack tape.
You will also need to ensure your safety by wearing protective glasses, a mask and a pair of gloves. Depending on the location of the crack, you may need a ladder or a stepladder. Be forward-looking and careful! Finally, if you have parquet or carpet in the room where the crack is located, protect the floors with a tarpaulin before starting the work.
Repair the crack with good repair techniquesThe first step in repair is to protect yourself. Put on your gloves, glasses and mask. Then, bring your triangular scraper and widen the crack in order to make a deeper and therefore more durable repair. You will also have to stop the progress of the crack. To do this, make a horizontal incision in the wall at each end of the crack using the American knife. Scratch the crack, sand and then dust the area. If it is not ready to install, prepare your filler. The instructions are specified on the packaging and must be followed carefully. In general, the coating should be very smooth and thick. It should adhere to the knife you are using. Fill the crack and then smooth the surface. Cover the repair with crack strips and remove the excess plaster. Let dry at least 4 hours. If necessary, repeat the operation. Indeed, it is not uncommon for it to shrink as it dries. Once this step is finished, take or prepare your finishing plaster. Spread it out, let it dry at least 4 hours also and sand it carefully.
The repair is finished! You can admire the work.
